Rod mill is also called rod grinding mill. Rod mill can be classified into ore rod mill, wet rod mill and so on. Rod mill can achieve selective crushing, commonly used in the industries that require final product to be uniform size, little over-crushed particle size, such as metal rock, silica sand, quartz sand, albite, potash feldspar, manual construct sand making, water-coal-slurry making industry. Basically, rod mill has the similar structure with ball mill. The main difference is the grinding medium, the grinding medium of rod mill is a long round rod, while the grinding medium of ball mill is ball. They are also different in the grinding form of grinding medium. The crushing process of rod mill is realized by line contact between rods. Thus the crushing is selective and small ones. Compared to the ball mill, the fineness of final products processed by rod mill is even and delicate.
The rod mill can be widely applied in some fields such as refractory, chemical industry, metallurgy, glass and some other industries that have the higher requirement on the uniformity of the finished product.
There are many grinding medium rods inside the continuous rotating drum. The continuous feeding material is broken by the shooting rods which are coming from a certain height of the wall of the drum; The falling medium and material would produce irregular slip and roll during the rotation of the drum, and the material is pulverized fine by the grinding effect among medium, drum-lining and materials. The dynamic material level different is produced by continuous forced materials charge and discharge, consequently more and more fine materials is slow out from the drum, and finish the grinding process inside the drum.
The particle size of the finished products produced by the rod mill is within the range between 4.7mm and 0.4mm. 80% of the feeding mineral particles are smaller than 20mm-4mm and sometimes they can reach as large as 50mm. Considering the materials which are used to make rod mills, the diameter of the grinding rod usually be adjusted at 75-150mm and the rod length at less than 6.1m. Or else, the grinding rods will work in disorder. Therefore, the size of the rod separating machine shouldn’t be larger than 4.6X6.3m.
